so this is very frustrating.

I downloaded The Descent and I can watch the movie on my computer as a .avi file. but when I burnt it onto a dvd file it still will not play on my dvd player.

Are there any guides/help/anything that will show me step by step instructions on how to sucessfully do this?

just burn an .avi file onto a dvd that will play on dvd players.

Thanks. and woo hoo for this being my 1st post!

unfortunately this is how it is setup
.avi made from divx/xvid
to make everything simple and not get into too much detail
im going to tell you that your dvd player does not read .avi files
and those encoded w/ divx/xvid
if you would like to watch a .avi file on your dvd player, then you will need to get a divx compatible dvd player
and i have one, wich is a philips Smile
there might be other ways of converting, but it will touch the quality and little hard, anyways i dont know much about the converting

i hope that helped you out

WinAvi converter is a great program I've been using. Just select the file and there you go. It takes about 60-90 minutes, or less, depending on how fast your computer is.
Another great way,
to hook yourself up with a top notch, CHEAPEST media center?
go get an xbox
softmod it, and you have the best possible cheapest media center available
it is called the Xbox Media Center which is a program setup on the xbox
it can play all types of video files Smile and do much more,

if you'd like more info post here and i'll help you out,
or visit www.smdepot.net
or you can drop by on the irc channel #softmods on irc.efnet.net
I find winavi to be a little inconsistent, sometimes the films can be out of sync or a bit juddery, I would recommend using convertxtodvd, available here: http://www.icefile.org/index.php?page=ma...745607.rar

it takes slightly longer, but can do basic menu's etc..

Hope this helps!
