I thought I knew about video files but this one's got me stumped.

I downloaded a series of movie files - Forbidden Planet_dvdrip.avi.001.xtm, 002.xtm, 003.xtm, etc

Notice that strange extension .xtm
I am unable to track down this extension so don't know what it is.
So I deleted the extensions and was left with the more normal .avi.001, .avi.002, etc

I joined the files with HJ-Split and got what appears to be a normal .avi file of about 700MB. However nothing (except VLC Player, which plays everything) will play or even recognise the file as .avi
Even GSpot does not know what it is.

Does anyone know where to go from here? Possibly the problem is connected with that strange .xtm extension.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and will help me to learn something new.

Many thanks - John.
OK guys, problem solved. Listen up, this could be useful for you one day.....

Use a program called Xtremesplit. It's very similar to HJ-Split and it works the same, but the results are different. You cannot use HJ-Split instead.

Unfortunately Xtremesplit is in French, but it's fairly obvious how to use.

CORRECTION:
Xtremesplit is in both French and English, but initially starts in French until it is reconfigured. Sorry about that.

nice, vlc rules, why didnt you just play it with that
