| | | Green Lantern, Submited 15 months ago by admin | | If you’re an avid fan of the comics industry, you are well aware of the “Green Lantern” and his participation in the Justice League team of superheroes. For those who are curious of this green suited peace enforcing being, this film will fill you in the gaps of how he came to be.
The Cast
This Martin Campbell film has an action, crime and fantasy plot that stars Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, a test pilot who later possessed the power of a mystical green ring and became the Green Lantern.
He was joined in by the beautiful Blake Lively as Carol Ferris, who have made a popular following in the TV series “Gossip Girl”. This movie has also stars Peter Sarsgaard (as Hector Hammond), Mark Strong (as Sinestro), Tim Robbins (as Hammond), Jay O. Sanders (as Carl Ferris), Taika Waititi (as Tom Kalmaku), Angela Bassett (as Doctor Waller), Mike Doyle (as Jack Jordan), Nick Jandl (as Jim Jordan), Dylan James (as Jason Jordan), Gattlin Griffith (as Young Hal), Jon Tenney (as Martin Jordan) and Leanne Cochran (as Janice Jordan).
The Movie
Hal Jordan is a gifted yet cocky test pilot who has been chosen by the power of a mysterious green ring. It was owned by one of the member of the Green Lantern Corp who were bound to protect the entire universe and keep the peace within the entire living race on the intergalactic plane.
The corp was threatened by a new nemesis known as Parallax. It has the power to destroy everything in its path in just a short period of time. As time runs out, the corp decided to recruit a human for the very first time. It wasn't a warm welcome, as humans are treated to the the lowest of all intergalactic races for their powerless being.
Hal tried to fit in with his new powers but he feels that something is just not right. Accidentally, his childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively) discovered the identity behind the mask and supported him with words of encouragement that he would be able to find courage within him self. Finding the means to overcome his fears would be the only solution for him to save the planet and defeat the Parallax, once and for all.
The Review
The "Green Lantern" has received mixed reviews from critics. It is inevitable since there are millions of people who are fairly fanatics for DC characters. Hal's character was a bit off, seemingly unfocused all the time and showed no signs of serious dedication to what he has become. But we have to commend that Reynold's gave a well rounded performance for this movie.
Indeed, Blake Lively would surely keep the men's eye glued to the screen as she is noted to be one of the hottest stars to date. But the role she was playing seemed unconvincing to the viewers or maybe we have just been accustomed to seeing her as a blonde with no direction from her TV series, "Gossip Girl".
The greatest credit that this film would surely have is the awesome costume design for Green Lantern as well as the special effects used for this movie. |

| | | Thor, Submited 15 months ago by admin | | Growing up, we all have enjoyed seeing our favorite superheroes on TV. Now that technology is better than ever, we have the luxury of seeing them in 3D action with excellent special effects to boot. Here is one of the legendary icons of animated series that surely needs no introduction, Thor.
The Cast
This Kenneth Branagh film uses an action, adventure and fantasy plot. The role of the arrogant powerful warrior was portrayed by Chris Hemsworth as Thor and joined in by the brilliant performances of Natalie Portman (as Jane Foster), Tom Hiddleston (as Loki), Anthony Hopkins (as Odin), Stellan Skarsgård (as Erik Selvig), Kat Dennings (as Darcy Lewis), Clark Gregg (as Agent Coulson), Idris Elba (Heimdall), Colm Feore (as King Laufey), Ray Stevenson (as Volstagg), Tadanobu Asano (as Hogun), Josh Dallas (as Fandral), Jaimie Alexander (as Sif), Rene Russo (as Frigga) and Adriana Barraza (as Isabel Alvarez).
The Movie
Thor (Hemsworth) is a powerful warrior from Asgard but his arrogance has brought his fate to live on Earth among with the humans. He never expected that living below the heavens would serve as a path for him to meet his true love Jane Foster (Portman).
As his attitude shifts for the better, he has developed and become the human’s best defender. He learned to put other lives before his and earned him back his powers and seat on the right of his father Odin (Hopkins).
The Review
It was surprising that Kenneth Branagh, a classic-lined director, have agreed to work on a superhero film. Yet since Thor being the God of Thunder usually speaks a Shakespearean language which actually answers the initial question.
Combining the brilliant performances of the cast and the solid screenplay has turned Thor to be one entertaining movie. Although, this film seems to be just an introduction of what will be a list of sequels actually had too little character development involved. It must have been because the story tried to introduce the characters all at once and the entire scenario that would play for the rest of the sequels as well.
Hemsworth performance as Thor is quite convincing. He managed a dynamic impact for his unstable character in the film. Moreover, all the other casts have also displayed their remarkable performances.
The screenplay has also been well-written and the action scenes are quite brilliant. The only thing I’ve noticed to be overly stereotype in this movie is the excessive close-ups which seemed to be unnecessary. Either way, it’s entertaining and still worth watching. |
